NEW YORK, N.Y. (Sep 18, 2003) -- Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Arista Records have joined forces to mark the DVD debuts of two of today's hottest recording artists - Avril Lavigne and the Neptunes - it was jointly announced today by Antonio "L.A." Reid, President and CEO, Arista Records, and Mike Dunn, President, Fox Home Entertainment. Available on November 4th, MY WORLD, the live concert movie by multi-platinum Arista recording artist Avril Lavigne also includes an exclusive, behind-the-scenes featurette and five hit music videos, plus a six song bonus audio CD that includes four unreleased tracks. The first direct-to-DVD movie starring Pharrell Williams, The Neptunes Present: DUDE...WE'RE GOING TO RIO!, features music from their brand new debut album The Neptunes Present...Clones, in addition to a never-before-seen N.E.R.D. performance of "Rock Star" and arrives on December 9th. The Avril Lavigne and Neptunes DVDs carry suggested retail prices of $26.98 and $22.98, respectively.
"The marriage of music content with movie distribution channels at retail is an idea whose time has finally arrived," said Mr. Reid. "The expansion that this gives our artists in the marketplace has the potential to reach the widest possible audience. Launching this partnership with two such successful and highly visible artists as Avril Lavigne and the Neptunes is an indication of our total belief in the long-term benefits that lie ahead for our new association with Fox."
"This partnership with Arista allows us to apply our expertise in home entertainment to the growing music DVD arena," said Dunn. "Our world-class, state-of-the-art distribution capabilities will help insure the best possible placement for these products at retail, while satisfying the overwhelming consumer demand for hot new music content on DVD."
MY WORLD, Avril's first live concert DVD was filmed in Buffalo, NY on May 18, 2003 - the final night of her headlining five-week North American "Try To Shut Me Up Tour." Celebrating a mega-successful debut year, MY WORLD reprises all of Avril's hits and favorite album tracks from her six-times platinum album LET GO, plus new tunes and other surprises in front of a devoted crowd of 18,000 fans. The 68-minute concert is supplemented with 40 minutes of behind-the-scenes candid documentary footage filmed along the tour in North America and Europe.
MY WORLD offers fans the only opportunity to own all four of Avril's MTV "TRL" #1 hit music videos - "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi," "I'm With You" and "Losing Grip," as well as an added video bonus of "Knocking On Heaven's Door." In addition, the package will contain a six song audio CD with four previously unreleased live tracks.
Filmed on location in New York City and Rio de Janeiro, the 60-minute DUDE...WE'RE GOING TO RIO! is a riotous misadventure starring Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes in a first-class quest for romance and nightlife. As Pharrell searches for a mystery Rio poster-girl beauty, there are cameo appearances by Busta Rhymes and more. The movie was executive produced for Star Trak Entertainment by the Neptunes' manager Robert Walker (who appears as himself) and Pharrell Williams. It was produced by Evolution Management, Mark Burg and Carl Mazzocone. Associate producer is Robin Simms. It was directed by C.B. Harding, known for his work on MTV's "The Osbournes" series.
DUDE...WE'RE GOING TO RIO! features music from The Neptunes Present...Clones, their #1 selling debut album that showcases more than a dozen artists produced by (and/or in collaboration with) Chad and Pharrell. The lead tracks include: "Frontin'" by Pharrell and Jay-Z, Nas and Kelis teaming up for "Popular Thug," and "Light Your Ass On Fire" by Busta Rhymes - all of which will be featured in the movie. Other featured artists on Clones include: Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Clipse, Roscoe P. Goldchain, Ab-Liva, Dirt McGirt (the artist formerly known as Ol' Dirty Bastard), Super Cat, Jadakiss, Vanessa Marquez, High Speed Scene, Spymob, and Chad and Pharrell's nom de band, N*E*R*D.
Over the past four years, the Neptunes have risen to prominence with an extraordinary run of hits as producers.
